National First Division Round-Up

National First Division Round-Up

The National First Division has been active for two weeks and teams have played two games with the exception of newcomers Ajax Cape Town and Cape Umoya United. The two sides are set to meet in one of the many Cape Town derbies of the season.

The biggest win for the weekend has to go out to TS Sporting who registered their first win of the season by beating Royal eagles 1-0.

The second round of matches also saw three draws being registered, Amatuks 1 Uthongathi 1, newcomers Maccabi managed to get a point away from home as they played a 1-1 draw against Siyavutha, Ezenkosi could not bounce back with a win after that loss to Ajax in their opening game, they could only manage a 2 all draw to TS Galaxy. Ubuntu suffered their second successive defeat of the season when they went down to Mbombela United. TTM and Richards Bay beat Realm Kings and Stellenbosch respectively to ensure that they get all the maximum points at home.

With two draws against teams that were involved in the promotional playoffs, they played a one all draw to Cape Umoya who was previously known as Platinum Stars before they relocated to the Mother City next on their list was NFD veterans Jomo Cosmos and they managed to get a point also from that clash. They are a new side which was brought together by former players representative Mr. Tim Sukazi, he brought Cape Town All Stars and renamed them TS Galaxy and the relocated to Mpumalanga.

We caught up with TS Galaxy General Manager Luxolo Matikinca.

” So far it’s been a tough start for us as you know we have played two formidable sides with PSL experience in Cape Umoya United FC (formerly Platinum Stars) & Jomo Cosmos a side that was in the playoffs last season. In fact, both sides were in the playoffs. We have held our own against them and managed 2 draws. I believe we have now laid the foundation and set the tone for the season”

The Rockets as they are affectionately known have roped in a couple of experienced players to their side with the hope of doing well in their debut season in the NFD, they have the likes of Luthando Sixhaso, who was in the books of Kaizer Chiefs, Sizwe Mdlinzo who took the PSL by storm whilst he was in the books of Chippa United, Ziad Patel who cut off his teeth at Bidvest Wits and will be remembered for the goal he scored against Mamelodi Sundowns in the 2011/12 season.

” It’s a newly assembled squad as you know we purchased the status of Cape Town All-stars. The plan is to stabilize the team in the first round and collect as many points as possible.
The second round is always tough”

The province of Mpumalanga boast a number of four teams that are plying their trade in the NFD and that is a huge boost for the province. The teams are Mbombela United, Witbank Spurs, TS Sporting and TS Galaxy.

” We have also done well on the marketing side as we have drawn big crowds for our first two games”
