Woza Nazo fever hits the Mother City
The first installment of the Woza Nazo initiative in Cape Town was the Ikapa derby, where the big guns of the city met in order to have the bragging rights of the city, with Ajax Cape Town relegated to the National First Division the Ikapa derby is no more. The Woza Nazo initiative is aimed at enhancing the culture of singing that already exists in the Absa Premiership. Absa calls on fans of both teams in the Mother City to continue to celebrate their teams and the way they show their Africancity through unique song and dance at the stadium.
“The Woza Nazo gives the supporters an opportunity to kick for a million and we already have one winner who bagged himself a million rand. In the last game of the 2017/18 season, we saw Steven Chauke, who is a 39-year-old bus driver bagging himself a million rand. Absa is passionate about connecting the fans with their passion for the beautiful game. We’re pleased to have played a role in changing the lives of a football fan through the game they love the most” said Mthunzi Jonas who is the Head of Sponsorship at ABSA.
The second edition of Woza Nazo in the mother City will be contested by the Citizens and Amakhosi, both sides have contrasting results this season. The Benni Mccarthy led side is currently on cloud nine they have already made it into a cup final this season and are currently sitting on position seven with five points whilst the Glamour boys have had the worst start to the season. They have played five games with four draws, a loss, and no win and are currently lying in position thirteen.
Benni McCarthy said ” I’m at a club where the chairman is not always on my case 24/7 to deliver and that gives me 100% focus on my job, I know my job is to ensure that type of football we play is entertaining and makes the supporters want to come and watch us play because its the type of football that South Africa is known for. Kaizer Chiefs have been the biggest team in the Absa Premiership and they will have the majority of fans on Saturday. The phase of being known as babies in the league has phased out we the giant slayers of this league and we have done a lot on the field of play to back it up”
Meetings between the two sides in the 2017/18 season saw the Naturena based outfit winning both clashes by 2-0 and 1-0 margin. amakhosi will be gunning for their first win of the season under the new coach Giovani Solinas.
“Come Saturday, what they have done in the previous years won’t matter. It will be 11 v 11 in the field. I have eleven hungry lions on my side and on the other side is a wounded animal” concluded the former Bafana Bafana striker
Absa customers and soccer fans will once again be rewarded with unique and unforgettable experiences through the Absa Premiership Kick For A Million competition. The competition rewards fans attending a Woza Nazo fixture by giving them an opportunity to participate in a half-time penalty kick competition where they stand a chance to win one million rands at the end of the season.
