First few months were a bit tough-Motlhalo
Banyana Banyana international Linda Motlhalo has completed her first season with Djurgardens IF in Sweden. The Randfontein born made the move to the Scandinavian country from Beijing Phoenix and penned a two-year deal.
“First few months were a bit tough. Mainly because of the new environment, new people, new systems. What made me adapt well was me asking questions, be it with the coaches or players. Try to understand the system we play, and watching video clips of training in that way to try and understand my teammate’s movements”.
When she made the move to Sweden the COVID-19 pandemic was peaking and most leagues were closed and some were played behind closed doors.
“What was important during that time was my health, that was well taken care of this side and so it was not difficult at all. I was on a call with my mom every day and hearing her say they safe also on the other side. That was fine with me”.
The Banyana international played twenty league games and found the back of the net on two occasions.
“The football this side it’s both physical and technical, a lot of people know am not one of the most physical players, but that did not stop me from anything and what helped is am a bit quicker than most of the players. In saying that I was hardly in physical clashes,50/50 tackles as they would say”.
