Kumalo enjoying his football in Central Africa

Former Mamelodi Sundowns Midfielder Sibusiso Kumalo has found his rhythm back as he is playing in the Equatorial Guinea League for Futuro Kings. The Kathlehong born moved to the Central African country last year in November, the talented midfielder spoke to us about his recent move and how things are at his new club.

“Yeah my brother, life is good, to be honest, I’m enjoying my time here. The team is treating me well, the Coach is working well with us and I’m happy at the moment. I got a call from my agent Lebo ‘Guluva’ Mashishi and he told me that is a team from Equatorial Guinea that is very interested in me and they want me to join them for their Pre-season camp in Cameroon and they told him that they will book a flight for me and everything including my visa. So I went there assessment just check the level of fitness and they were impressed and yeah here I am they signed me”.

Kumalo started his career with Moroka Swallows in their Youth Academy and got promoted to the first team in 2011 and later in 2013, he got a move to join Masandawana after impressing with some breathtaking performances. He managed to have a handful appearance for the Brazilians and was loaned out to Maritzburg United, Jomo Cosmos and Bidvest Wits before leaving Sundowns.

The soft-spoken Kumalo also shared the fact he had to leave his comfort zone.

“No it wasn’t easy at all because I was born and bred in South Africa, my family is there but listen, it’s my talent and a job and I have to support my family so I had to come. I decided to come here first for Football reasons and second to support my family. I appreciate the opportunity and experience I had at Mamelodi Sundowns, it made me mentally stronger and I learnt a lot from Coach Pitso, I did”.

“The league here is quite competitive, although the league hasn’t started it’s very competitive. Yes I would consider coming back but for now, all my focus is at Futuro Kings, they gave me a chance so all my focus is here for now”, said Kumalo
